Springsteen’s third single (fourth if you count “The Wrestler”) from his forthcoming album entitled “Working on a Dream” is now available for FREE via Amazon.com.
After my first listen to “Life Itself”, I was unsure of how I felt about it. However, by the middle of the second run-through, I was hooked. The song reminds me of “Worlds Apart” which was on Springsteen’s 2002 album “The Rising.”
This is one of the songs that will be VERY interesting to hear live. Who knows? The Boss may totally change the arrangment, play it solo acoustic/piano, or play it exactly as it sounds on the album. If you don’t believe me, remember what he did with “No Surrender” on the “Born in the U.S.A.” tour.
Give “Life Itself” a listen and feel free to leave comments telling me what you think of the new track!
I was at this show and it was such a nice treat to see Bruce perform unannounced! He played the following songs:
Run Run Rudolph (with Jon Bon Jovi) / Merry Christmas Baby / Santa Claus is Coming to Town (with Southside Johnny) / 634-5789 / Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out (with Jon Bon Jovi) / Havin’ a Party (with Southside Johnny and Gary U.S. Bonds)
This show was one of those that make you think that everything is really OK with the world…just a magical night on the Jersey Shore (could it happen anywhere else? I don’t think so )
Unfortunately, we must use this link as embedding for the following video has been disabled. Usually I would only post embeddable videos only, but this is a must!
NOTE: The video quality becomes a little bit better as it progresses, but it’s worth watching in its entirety simply because the footage is so rare.
This is very rare footage of Bruce performing with Cats on a Smooth Surface at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park on August 15th, 1982.
The song is Bruce’s River session outtake “From Small Things (Big Things One Day Come). He would often perform this during guest appearances, but it did not get its E Street Band premiere until August 11th, 2003 in Philadelphia, PA.
I feel like I have heard the statement, “The lyrics are no good..” ad nauseum since yesterday’s release of Bruce’s new single entitled “My Lucky Day” (the second from his new album “Working On a Dream”). I have to respectfully disagree with the critics (otherwise known as Springsteen fans) on this one. COME ON PEOPLE! This song is filled with emotion and energy that I personally feel will be all over this album. Take a good look at the lyrics below and make up your own mind.
My Lucky Day
Music and Lyrics written by B. Springsteen
In the room where fortune falls
On a day when chance is all
In the dark of fierce exile
I felt the grace of your smile
Honey, you’re my lucky day
Baby, you’re my lucky day
Well I lost all the other bets I made
Honey, you’re my lucky day
When I see strong hearts give way
To the burdens of the day
To the weary hands of time
Where fortune is not kind
Honey, you’re my lucky day
Baby, you’re my lucky day
Well I lost all the other bets I made
Honey, you’re my lucky day
Whoa!
[guitar solo]
[sax solo]
I’ve waited at your side
I’ve carried the tears you’ve cried
But to win, darlin’ we must play
So don’t hide your heart away
Honey, you’re my lucky day
Baby, you’re my lucky day
Well I lost all the other bets I made
Honey, you’re my lucky day
Whoa!
So maybe it’s not “Thunder Road” or “Lost in the Flood”, but it’s damn good. I get a “Ties” feeling when I listen to this song. To be honest, it has the feel of something recorded during the period between “The River” and “Born in the U.S.A.” In other words, I like it a whole lot.
Bruce Springsteen’s second new single from his forthcoming album, “Working On a Dream”, has been released today via Amazon.com and MySpace. This 4 minute, 1 second rocker is really upbeat and positive in contrast to some of Springsteen’s recent political creations.
Let me say that I really love this song and I can’t wait to see how it sounds in the arenas. Speaking of arenas, he will be playing them as opposed to stadiums. The tour will feature a European leg starting around February 7 and culminating with an American leg after that.
Expect the European dates to be announced sometime in the next day or two.
