• Bruce Springsteen on Tour , 1968-2005 , Dave Marsh (Bloomsbury, $39.95): A lavish pictorial history of the Boss ranges from his days in groups such as the Castiles and Earth and Steel Mill (check out the amazing photo of him playing a jam session at the Upstage, circa 1969) through the formation of the E Street Band and his subsequent conquering of the rock ’n’ roll world. As recently as 2003, one photo shows, Springsteen was still able to hang upside down on a microphone stand.
